Orkney and Shetland Benevolent
Society
The Society is a long established Glasgow charitable organization for
residents of Orkney and Shetland.
Although the need for charitable relief has changed over the years the
principal aim of the Society remains, which is to raise funds for giving
charitable relief for the following purposes:

Giving relief to
the natives of Orkney and Shetland Islands, their children, or widows
residing in Greater Glasgow or travelling through Glasgow and who from
sickness or sudden emergency may be in need of temporary aid

Providing financial
assistance for educational purposes to the residents of Orkney and Shetland or their children who may be studying in Glasgow
-
Any other related
cause that may be deemed appropriate by the Committee.

Bursaries
The Society has been offering book grants to students from Orkney and
Shetland studying in Glasgow, for a number of years. This has now been
replaced with the offer of a bursary known as the
Glasgow Orkney and Shetland Benevolent Society Bursary.
The
Glasgow Orkney and Shetland Benevolent Society was established in 1837.
It is a charity registered with the Office of the Scottish
Charity Regulator (Scottish Charity No. SC006293 )
